July 2013 – September 2013

General Scope

Lay 2700m2 of podium deck with 600 x 600 x 50mm concrete slabs.

  • Lay membrane on-top of new roofing system
  • Hand lay 7500no. 600 x 600 x 50mm concrete slabs
  • Install 42no. recessed manhole covers and infill with coloured mortar
  • Various brickwork and coping stone repairs
  • Block work and rendering to voids
  • Pump concrete screed to first floor podium deck to regulate and prepare for slabs
  • Construction of temporary granular car park and removal on completion of works

  • Our client requested that we devise a system where we lay the new concrete slabs on-top of the new roofing system ensuring that storm water flows below the slabs to the drainage outlets. BPM operatives therefore laid each slab on 5no. ‘moulds’ of mortar, using 5no. 100mm diameter sections. This resulted in BPM staff preparing 37,500no. moulds throughout the course of the project. (See photograph below). Not only did this ensure the water could reach the outlets and drain away it also proved to be a good solution for the efficient use of materials.
